Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation believes in fostering creativity and community, and the SLO team is proud to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County, an organization that helps many young people in need, with a Community Impact Grant.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The local, volunteer and donor-funded organization provides targeted recruiting, screening, training and matching, as well as ongoing support, safety training and supervision for volunteers, children and families.

A nationwide Harris Interactive study found that adults who were involved as children in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs grew up to be better educated and wealthier and reported stronger relationships with their spouses, children and friends. Volunteer mentors often find their efforts benefit them as much as the children they’re matched with.

Sereno 1% For Good Charitable Foundation awards grants to local organizations actively making a positive difference in our communities. Since 2012, the team has donated over $5.9 million dollars to over 487 organizations. Lindsey Harn, the founder of the SLO Sereno office, got her start at Big Brothers Big Sisters as an intern in 2007, an experience she considers fundamental to her career and life.

This grant will help provide funds for more training of future Big Brothers and Sisters in San Luis Obispo County. This will also assist with future events within the organization and the accessibility to several activities throughout the region.
